Anjali Ranadivé (born September 16, 1992), known by her stage name Anjali World, is an American singer-songwriter and marine conservationist.[1][2][3]

Early life

Anjali grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a marine science degree in 2013.[4] Her father, Vivek Ranadivé, is the founder and CEO of TIBCO as well as the majority owner of the Sacramento Kings.[5] Her mother is Ranadive's ex-wife, philanthropist Debra Addicott. Anjali represented the Sacramento Kings at the 2014 NBA Draft Lottery.[6][7] When she was twelve years old, Anjali’s basketball team, which was coached by her father, reached the national finals by strategically employing a full-court press with Anjali as the designated trapper.[5]

She became interested in singing through her mother and brother’s love for music. In particular, her brother produced tracks for local rappers.[3] She decided to fully pursue music as a career after graduating from university.[3]

Career

Ocean conservation

Growing up, Ranadivé developed a passion for animals while working at aquariums, animal rescues, and conservation centers like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Yggdrasil Wildlife Center, and The Ocean Project.[8][9] After graduating with a science degree, she founded Jaws & Paws, a marine and wildlife conservation nonprofit that spreads awareness for the conservation of sharks, polar bears, and tigers.[1][10] Ranadive gives all the proceeds from her music to Jaws & Paws.[11][12] In October 2015 Anjali has received the 2015 Paul Walker Ocean Leadership Award from the Monterey Bay Aquarium.[13]

Music

Anjali World is an R&B singer-songwriter.[14][15]

She wrote and released her first single, “We Turn Up” in April 2014.[3][16] The track was written with R&B, pop, and Bollywood influences, and was produced by Super Dave with Moroccan rapper, French Montana, featured on the song.[2][14][17][18] The music video for “We Turn Up” premiered on Music Choice in September 2014.[17] Her second single is called “Nobody” and features Tyga.[19][20] She performed the song at the Sacramento Kings halftime show on December 8, 2014.[21] Anjali World has opened for artists like Trey Songz, Raghav, and the New Boyz.[22] She sang the national anthem when Indian prime minister Narendra Modi had a rally in Madison Square Garden.[23]
