Anthony Ramos (born Anthony Ramos Martinez; November 1, 1991) is an American actor. In 2015 Ramos originated the roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton's eldest son, in the musical Hamilton on Broadway.[3][4][5]
Early life
Ramos grew up in Bushwick, Brooklyn.[5] He is of Puerto Rican descent.[6]
Education
In high school, Ramos had the highest batting average on his school's baseball team and initially planned to go on and compete in college; he had set his sights on working as a coach after his college graduation. However, after he started to lose his love for the sport, he fell into starring in his school's musical after mistakenly thinking he was auditioning for a talent show instead of a production. As a result, he fell in love with performing, became part of his school's Theater Guild and decided to pursue it professionally with guidance from two of his teachers.[5]
He graduated from New Utrecht High School in 2009 and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy's music theater program in the spring of 2011.[1][7]
Personal life
Ramos is in a relationship with his Hamilton costar Jasmine Cephas Jones.[8]
