Anthony Wayne Smith (born June 28, 1967) is a former American football defensive end in the National Football League and convicted murderer. He was drafted by the Raiders 11th overall in the 1990 NFL Draft. He played college football at Arizona and also Alabama.
1999 murders
He was charged in 2011 with committing the 2008 murder of Maurilio Ponce, which ended with a hung jury. On July 4, 2012, prosecutors refiled that charge and added three other counts of first degree murder.[1] On October 12, 2012, a Los Angeles County judge ordered Smith must stand trial for the four murders.[2] On November 5, 2015, Smith was convicted of the murders of Ricky and Kevin Nettles who were kidnapped from their Los Angeles car wash business in 1999 and Dennis Henderson who was kidnapped and killed in 2001. A mistrial was declared on a fourth charge stemming from the shooting death of Ponce. On January 22, 2016, Smith was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences, without the possibility of parole.[3]

He was previously married to former Canadian singer–actress Denise Matthews, better known as Vanity. The marriage lasted for a year, from 1995 to 1996.[4]
