Aoua Kéita

Aoua Kéita (1912 in Bamako – 1980 in ibidem) was a Malian independence activist and writer from Mali. She was a member of the African Democratic Rally and has been described as a militant member. In 1950 renounced her French citizenship and in the following year she led to the party's success in elections. In 1959 she was elected to Parliament and later received numerous awards from several African nations. After the overthrow of Modibo Keïta her political importance ebbed, but she later gained respect as a writer through her autobiography.
