AppFolio offers software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications for vertical markets. Klaus Schauser and Jon Walker founded the company in 2007. Schauser was a professor of computer science at UCSB. He previously started the company now called CitrixOnline. He also had a role in creating GoToMyPC, GoToAssist and GoToMeeting.[1] Walker was previously chief technology officer of Versora and of Miramar Systems before starting AppFolio.[1]
History
AppFolio started in 2007 after obtaining initial funding of $5 million in Series A from BV Capital to create Property Management Software.[2] A year later, it obtained $22 million in a Series B funding led by BV Capital and Cisco.[3][4] Less than 2 months after receiving the second round of funding, AppFolio released the first version of AppFolio Property Manager.[5]
Products
AppFolio Property Manager
The company's first product, AppFolio Property Manager, is a web-based real estate property management system.[6] The software enables property managers to market and manage their portfolio. It includes accounting and property management functions with the ability to email work-orders, owner statements and resident communications. Users can post vacancy ads and a personal website. A mobile app gives users mobile access to their data.[7]
MyCase
In 2012, AppFolio acquired MyCase, a web-based practice management application for lawyers. It has the features common in law practice management software, including contact and case management, calendaring, time tracking, billing, and a mobile app.[8][9]
