Arsh Shah Dilbagi (born March 26, 1998) is an Indian entrepreneur, roboticist and inventor. He is popularly known as Robo.[1] He is the Founder and CEO of Arido[2] and the Founder of Saroid, about which very little has been made public. Though honored two times by consecutive Presidents of India,[3] he was globally recognised at the age of 16 after his invention 'TALK' won the Voter's Choice Award at Google Science Fair 2014 at Mountain View, California, USA.[4] He also won four awards at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2015 held at Pittsburgh, USA.[5]
Career
In April 2015, Dilbagi was appointed as the Brand Ambassador of India STEM Foundation,[6] an NGO that promotes STEM education through robotics and hosts competitions like World Robot Olympiad and FIRST LEGO League in India.
In August 2015, Dilbagi established an exhibit housing a quadruped robot dog, which he calls CLUMSY, at the Science and Innovation Museum at President's Estate, New Delhi. The exhibit is named 'A Day in the Life of a Robot Dog - CLUMSY'.[7] It attracts thousands of visitors every week and inspires them to pursue robotics. The museum was inaugurated by the President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee on August 5, 2015.[8]
In a September 11, 2015 interview[9] Dilbagi said that he had always believed in innovation for a cause and solving problems which had hindered humanity. He believes technology is the essence of life. According to Dilbagi, personal robots will render personal computers redundant in the future.[10]
Notable inventions and projects
TALK
An Assistive Device to convert breath into speech.[11][12][13] It is a patent-pending innovative technology which uses the variations in person's breath help him either dictate letters which are further combined and synthesised as sentences or speak-out specific commands/phrases depending on the mode selected.[14][15]
CLUMSY
A quadruped robot with 16 Servo Motors and an IMU Unit.[16][17] It is a research project with an aim to develop an Artificially Intelligent Neural Network to induce self-learning of walking in a quadruped robot. CLUMSY is installed at the Science and Innovation Museum - ‘Navachara’ at President's Estate, New Delhi, India.[7][14][18]
Bitruder
A Non-Motorized Dual Extruder for Rep-Rap 3D Printers to enable such printers to simultaneously print with two cartridges.[19] It uses only the basic components of a Prusa i3 Rep-Rap 3D Printer without the need of any additional hardware.[14][20]
VIKI
Offline voice controlled home automation system. VIKI stands for Virtual Interactive Kinect Intelligence.[21] It understands speech commands and control the appliances connected to it.[14][22]
WP-Thumbnail
Realtime screenshot generating plugin for WordPress. It is a simple WordPress Plugin that allows the user to use a short-code to generate dynamic screenshot of webpages and save a link of the same in posts as well as take a real-time snapshot of the served webpage.[13][14]
Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV)
A working prototype of a semi-autonomous heavy duty robotic vehicle capable of operating over a wide variety of terrains.[23] The cognitive process for maneuvering the vehicle was managed through sensory inputs such as wireless web-camera. It could be loaded with an array of sensors capable of performing need based tasks.[14][24]
BIPED
Static locomotion bipedal robot with an aim of developing a walking platform capable of locomotion with 6 independent servos.[14][25]
