Ardagh (Ard Muca) is a parish[1] and village in North Mayo, located slightly to the south of Ballina,[2] at Latitude: 54° 5' 52 N, Longitude: 9° 13' 32 W.[3]

The parish takes its name from an ancient ecclesiastical site, which was either a Church or a small monastery, and is derived from "Ard Achadh", which means high ground.[1] The earliest record of the first church in Ardagh is in a 1198 epistle issued by Pope Innocent 3rd.[4] The Ardagh Hoard was discovered in 1868 at ancient ring fort near Ardagh.[5]
