Area codes 702 and 725 are the North American Numbering Plan telephone codes serving Clark County, Nevada, including Las Vegas. 702 was one of the original area codes established in October 1947; it originally covered the entire state of Nevada. On December 12, 1998, most of Nevada, including Reno and Carson City, moved to area code 775. Nevada's explosive growth in the second half of the 20th century would have made a new area code necessary in any event. However, the split was hastened by the proliferation of cell phones and pagers, particularly in Las Vegas, Reno, and Carson City.

Since May 3, 2014, the 702 area code has been overlaid with the 725 area code, with 10-digit dialing required for all calls.[1]

Despite Las Vegas' rapid growth, 702/725 is nowhere near exhaustion; Las Vegas is not currently projected to need another area code until 2042.[2]
