Armenian National Agrarian University is a higher educational institution in the Republic of Armenia. Rector of ANAU is professor Arshaluys P. Tarverdyan. Armenian National Agrarian University trains and prepares specialists for the agrarian sphere. According to the RA Government degree adopted in 1994, July 7 Armenian Agricultural Academy was established on the base of Armenian Agricultural and Yerevan Zootechnical Veterinary Institutes.
Academic reputation
Armenian National Agrarian University cooperates with CIS agrarian universities and organizations, with various European universities (Weihenstephan University- Germany, University of Agricultural Sciences of Sweden, Kassel University -Germany), with American (Fresno) universities. In result of cooperation agreement signed in 1999 with Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University Armenian-American Agribusiness Teaching Center was founded. The University continues to cooperate with a lot of prestigious universities and international organizations such as International Scientific Center, Netherlands International Centre for development oriented Research in Agriculture (ICRA), North Atlantic Treaty (program "Science for Peace"), Center of Agricultural Researches of Estonia, Food and Agriculture Organization of UN, International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), etc.
There are 5 vocational boards (farm production mechanization and machines, agronomy, veterinary medicine and animal husbandry, farm production and economics) in the Armenian State Agrarian University that grant degrees. The above-mentioned boards grant doctorate and candidate degrees in the direction of 17 agrarian specialties. The process of training the specialists was successfully combined with solution of main issues of theoretical and practical importance. Great success was achieved especially in getting new sorts of grapes and field crops, as well as their introduction, new effective kinds of pesticides and their testing, and also in improving technologies of crop cultivation, highland farming mechanization and in many other fields.
Historical review
Armenian Agricultural Academy was founded in 1994 on the base of unification of Armenian Agricultural and Yerevan Zootechnical Veterinary Institutes. In 1930 July 23 Yerevan Agricultural Institute was founded on the base of agricultural faculty of Yerevan State University. In 1932 part-time courses became available, first for only agronomy, and later for other specialties. In 1928 June 28 Veterinary Institute of Transcaucasia was formed. Professor B. G. Massino was appointed as a director, and on 8 November formal opening ceremony took place, a lot of politicians and party members were present at the ceremony, such as A.Khanjyan, A.Mravyan, S.Kasyan, R.Dashtoyan and others. In 1930 there was a faculty of animal husbandry in Yerevan Agricultural Institute. A year later a decision was made to establish Yerevan Veterinary Zootechnical Institute, which in 1932 was renamed into Yerevan Zootechnical Veterinary Institute. According to the RA Government degree adopted in 1994, July 7 Armenian Agricultural Academy was founded, which later-in 2005 was renamed into Armenian State Agrarian University. In September 2012 was renamed into Armenian National Agrarian University. The first rector of Armenian Agricultural Academy was appointed professor A.Ts. Khachatryan (1994–1998), and since 1998 corresponding member of NAS of Armenia, professor A. P. Tarverdyan has been the rector. Currently there are about 4400 full-time students, and 5800 part-time students, 450 master and 240 phD students( among them 200 from Iran’s Islamic Republic, and 4 from Syria). The ASAU State College has 157 students.

ANAU research centers and institutes
The Scientific Center was formed in August 1998 in the result of reformation of science administration of Armenian Agricultural Academy (AAA). Since then it has been headed by Professor D.P. Petrosyan. Since 1972 research sectors have been operating in Armenian Agricultural Institute and Yerevan Zootechnical Veterinary Institute, which's main aim was to coordinate and organize works of contractual scientific themes conducted in the Institutes. The problem laboratories, departments of master and PhD studies, publishing-editorial sector, standardizing and licensing department are subdivisions of Center. By the decision of the Scientific Council of ANAU the following problem laboratories have been operating in the Scientific Center since January 2005:

- Problem Laboratory of Plants Genbank and Selection
- Problem Laboratory of Melioration, Water Resources, Land Management and Geology
- Problem Laboratory of Genetics, Selection and Feeding of Farm Animals
- Problem Laboratory of Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise
- Problem Laboratory of Ecology Issues
In 2010 on the base of problem laboratories of animal origin raw and foodstuff, wine and cognac technology, molecular biology and biotechnology the problem laboratories of foodstuff technology, food security and biotechnology were formed, and on the base of the problem laboratory of farm mechanization and electrification scientific-research institutes of agriculture mechanization, electrification and automobile transportation were formed.
In 2009 departments of international grants and in 2010 department of information technologies were founded. The Scientific Center cooperates with local and international scientific research institutions, such as ICARDA-ն, IPGRI-ն, IFPRI-ն, Agricultural Research center of Greece. The center coordinates agrarian research works implemented at ANAU controlling the financing of scientific themes, the process and results of scientific researches.
