Arnab Kumar Mondal (born 25 September 1989) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a centre back for East Bengal in the I-League, on loan to Atlético Kolkata in the Indian Super League.

Career

Early career

Born in Kolkata, West Bengal, Mondal started his career with Mohammedan before joining Prayag United of the I-League in 2010.[3]

East Bengal

In the summer of 2012, Mondal signed for local rivals East Bengal.[4] He made his debut for East Bengal on 30 September 2012 in the 2012 Indian Federation Cup final against Dempo at the Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri, West Bengal in which he scored the equalizer for East Bengal in the 60th minute to tie the game 1–1; East Bengal went on to win the match 3-2 and hence the Federation Cup of 2012.[5] He then made his I-League debut for East Bengal on 7 October 2012 against Sporting Goa at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao, Goa, in which he helped his side keep an opening day clean-sheet as East Bengal drew the match 0–0.[6]

Atlético de Kolkata (loan)

In 2014, Mondal signed up for the Indian Super League, the new franchise football league, and was drafted by Atlético Kolkata to play on loan from East Bengal.[7] He officially made his debut for the side in the team's first ever game on 12 October 2014 against Mumbai City. He played the whole 90 minutes as Atlético de Kolkata won 3–0.[8] Mondal was regular for Atlético Kolkata during the league, alongside Josemi.[9] Mondal started and played the full match of the final, as they became the first champions of the ISL.[10]

Mondal was retained by Atlético will also play for the club in the 2015 Indian Super League season.[11] He became ISL Emerging Player of the Match against FC Pune City.

International

Mondal made his first start for the India U23 against Qatar U-23 in the 2012 Summer Olympics Qualifiers.[12] Arnab was declared the captain of the senior national team for the World Cup Qualifiers against Oman on 10 June 2015 by coach Stephen Constantine.[13]
