Arrêt sur images

Arrêt sur images ("Freeze-frame shot", also abbreviated as the acronym ASI) was initially a weekly French television program, created and presented by journalist Daniel Schneidermann and broadcast on La Cinquième from 1995 (renamed France 5 in January 2002) and produced by Carrere group. Its circulation was stopped abruptly in 2007 by decision of the Director of the antenna Philippe Vilamitjana.

As a result of this deletion, the concept has spawned a website, @rrêt sur images (also known by the acronym @SI). After a preliminary form in September 2007, the final version was posted in January 2008. The internet subscription campaign launched on this occasion was a resounding success, despite an almost complete silence of the mainstream media.[1]

It is since 2008 a television channel, Arretsurimages.tv, which broadcasts the weekly debate of Daniel Schneidermann, the literary program (D@ns le texte) presented most often by Judith Bernard, the program @ux Sources by Maja Neskovic and a program on the television series and films launched in October 2012, @u prochain épisode, hosted by film columnist Rafik Djoumi. The team launched an iPhone application in early November 2009, an Android app in October 2010 and an application for tablet computers in December 2011. Common to all these applications, they were developed by an @sinaute (subscriber of @rrêt sur images website). They provide access to site content directly on compatible devices.

Principle: criticism of the TV by TV

"The vocation of @rrêt sur images is critical reflection on the media."

Thus the @rrêt sur images website has its raison d'être.

As a TV program, ASI is unique: the only one to push this principle to the end, trying to understand the origin, the meaning, the complexity of images we have streaming. This earned it to be nicknamed by some journalists "beef carrots" (the police of the polices), since the emission stalking weaknesses, inconsistencies and manipulations that are sometimes daily on television. The actors of this television so sometimes have felt watched by the great "observatory".
