The arrondissement of Limoux is an arrondissement of France in the Aude department in the Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées région. Its INSEE code is 112 and its capital city is Limoux.

It is the southernmost of the arrondissements of the department, with an area of 1,780.9 km2 (687.6 sq mi).[1] In 2012, it has 44,712 inhabitants and a density of 25.1 inhabitants/km².[2]

The only city in the arrondissement with a population of 10,000 or higher is the capital, Limoux, with 10,180 inhabitants.[2]

History

When the Aude department was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Limoux was part of that original department.[3]

Geography

The arrondissement of Limoux is bordered to the north and east by the arrondissement of Carcassonne, to the south by the Pyrénées-Orientales department, and to the west by the Ariège department.
