Art Savage (July 3, 1951 – November 21, 2009)[1] was the president and CEO of the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1990–1997, and the majority owner of the Sacramento River Cats of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League (PCL) from 1999 until his death in 2009. Savage acquired the Vancouver Canadians, based in British Columbia, and moved them south to Sacramento soon after.
Born in Amarillo, Texas,[2] Savage died of lung cancer on November 21, 2009.[3] His son, Jeff, said that he and his family would retain control of the team.
Personal
Savage's son Brent was rescued from a swimming pool accident when he was a child, which left him permanently unable to walk or physically function properly. He has since used a wheelchair. It also left Brent unable to speak, forcing him to use a communicator.
