Arthur Charlton, Esq (1877–1956)[2] was a Scottish footballer who played in the Football League for Nottingham Forest.[3] He is best remembered for his six years in amateur football with Brentford during the 1890s, being described as "probably the club's first great player".[4] He was posthumously inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in 2015.[5]
Personal life
Charlton left Brentford to complete an apprenticeship in soap making.[4] He later returned to West London served as head of the Brentford Chamber of Commerce from 1932 to 1933 and as mayor of Brentford & Chiswick in 1951.[1][4] He was also a county councillor, an alderman and chairman and managing director of the Brentford Soap Company.[1] He was made a freeman of the borough in 1954.[1]
