Asterisk Art Project
Asterisk Art Project is a non-profit art gallery and performance venue in Williamsburg; the northern portion of the New York City borough of Brooklyn.
History
Originally named "The Asterisk Young Artist Project", the space was opened on November 16, 2002 by brothers Aaron Mason and Cory Mason. The space opened as an art gallery for emerging artists hosting monthly show openings with live music, and in recent years has become a hotspot for independent and local performers.
In 2006 a second Asterisk, Asterisk Hawaii, opened in Honolulu hosting photo shoots, exhibitions, live musical performances, and film productions.
Today
The Asterisk Art Project remains a quasi-legal performance venue with strong ties to the community and support from New York University (NYU), The Brooklyn Arts Council, the Museum of Cartoon and Comic Art, Trees Not Trash and other organizations.
