Atsiz ibn Uvaq
Atsiz Ibn Uwaq al-Khwarizmi, also known as Al Aqsis, Atsiz ibn Uvaq, Atsiz ibn Oq and Atsiz al-Khwarizmi, was a Khwarezmian mercenary commander of the Seljuk army of Malik-Shah I, who controlled Syria from 1070-77.[1] Islamic historians Ibn 'Asakir and Ali ibn al-Athir recorded details of his conquest of Syria from the Fatimids. He had previously been hired by the Fatimid ruler Ma'ad al-Mustansir Billah.[2]
