- – Locomotive 5 Slieve Callan returns steam passenger (tourist) services to reinstated section of West Clare Railway at Moyasta Junction, Ireland (3 ft (0.91 m) gauge).[1]
- August 14
- – 2009 Romanian bus-train collision: at least 13 people die after a bus-train collision in Scânteia, Iaşi County, Romania on County Road 248C. According to the Iaşi police, the accident occurred because the minibus driver failed to comply with light signals and signs at the railway crossing. It was the worst accident in Romania in fifteen years.[2][3][4][5][6]
