Aung Thu (Burmese: အောင်သူ; born 22 May 1996) is a footballer from Burma, and a Striker for the Myanmar U-19 national football team and Yadanarbon FC.He was born in Pyinmanar, Nay Pyi Taw. In 2009, he joined the Myanmar Football Academy in Mandalay.He had played for U-16 and now he is playing in U-19 football team. Aung Thu first appeared in national under 16 team that took part in 2011 AFF U-16 Youth Championship. He scored a goal against Qatar in 2014 AFC U-19 Championship in Myanmar which the team eventually lost in the extra time. He is fond of Messi. His performance helped the U-19 Myanmar National Team advance to the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time in Myanmar football history. This was the first time that a Myanmar football team taking part in a world level tournament after Myanmar had qualified for the football tournament in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. He also won the most valuable player award of the year in early 2015 January. He scored a leading goal for Myanmar against New Zealand in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored his first international goal for Myanmar National Football team against Laos 3-1 in 2018 World Cup qualification(AFC).
History
Myanmar's 19-year-old promising striker,Aung Thu,is the product of Myanmar Football Academy(Mandalay). Born in Pyinmanar, middle Myanmar, he surprisingly represented Pyinmanar town at the age of 13 in U-19 Division Tournament and scored 3 goals.Later he was selected to attend the Myanmar Football Academy(Mandalay) and started his international career at U-16 tournament in 2011. In 2014, he scored a crucial deciding goal against U-19 Vietnam at the match of Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy tournament in Brunei and Myanmar was crowned champion for the first time. He immediately became a Myanmar Fans' favourite striker. He continued his goal scoring streaks in both 2014 U-19 championship and 2015 U-20 World Cup New Zealand. He was noted for his powerful shots and intelligent runs in FIFA techanical study book of 2015 U-20 World Cup. Aung Thu is playing at Myanmar National League Football Club, Yadanarbon FC and continue showing good form. He was called up for Myanmar National Football Team and his debut for national team will come sooner.
