He played college baseball for the Florida Atlantic Owls. The St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the fourth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.[2][3] Gomber signed with the Cardinals, receiving a $374,100 signing bonus, and was assigned to the State College Spikes of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League.[1] He recorded 36 strikeouts in 11 games started for State College.[4]
