Australian Mother of the Year Award

Barnardos Mother of the Year is the largest and most recognised national awards celebrating mothers. The awards publicly acknowledge the critical role mothering plays in keeping children safe, nurturing them to help realise their potential and shaping the future of Australia. Established in 1996 and hosted by leading child protection charity Barnardos Australia, the awards are the charity’s flagship campaign, driving a social movement around the importance of mothering.

A judging panel assesses the top 100 nominations, selecting State/Territory finalists and hosts a morning tea event in each capital city to showcase the finalists achievements. Each State/Territory Finalist is then flown to Sydney for the culmination of the prestigious National Announcement in May, just prior to the Sunday designated as Mother's Day in Australia.

These events attracts widespread media coverage and are supported by celebrity ambassadors, politicians and the community at large.

Nominations are open to any Australian mum who has made a difference to the life of a child/children. She could be your own Mum – birth, foster, step or adoptive – your wife, partner, sister, daughter, aunty, friend or someone special in your local community.
