AvalonBay Communities, Inc. is a member of the S&P 500, a publicly traded real estate investment trust headquartered in Arlington, VA. The company develops, redevelops, acquires and manages more than 170 apartment communities in United States markets[1] that are defined as high barrier-to-entry. AvalonBay Communities Inc. maintains regional, administrative, and/or specialty offices in or near the following cities: San Jose, CA; San Francisco, CA; Shelton, CT; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Newport Beach, CA; New York, NY; Woodbridge, NJ;[2] Virginia Beach, VA; and Seattle, WA.
History
AvalonBay Communities Inc. was incorporated under the laws of the State of California in 1978 and was reincorporated in the State of Maryland in June 1995.
In February 2013, AvalonBay acquired 40% of Archstone's assets as part of an acquisition headed by Equity Residential.[3]
