Avangate is an enterprise software company that helps software, SaaS, and online services companies manage digital commerce, global payments, and subscription billing for direct and channel sales. The company’s services include customer support, risk and anti-fraud management, tax and VAT compliance and financial reconciliation, as well as an affiliate marketing network and associated services.[1][2] Avangate focuses on the “business-to-individual” sales model.[3]

History

The first version of the Avangate eCommerce platform was released in 2005 and the company was incorporated in 2006 in Amsterdam by Radu Georgescu, as part of GeCAD Software.

Avangate achieved Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Level 1 certification in 2009.[4] By 2010, Avangate had secured about 900 customers,[5] was accepting 20 payment methods, and offered ordering capabilities in 20 languages.

The company was profiled by Forrester in its eCommerce suite analysis in 2010.[6]

By 2012, Avangate was handling transactions for 2400 customers, and was featured as part of Forrester’s Subscription and Recurring Billing Solutions research.[7]

Avangate continued to grow, and by 2014 was serving more than 3,000 Software, SaaS, and Online Services customers, had about 44,000 affiliates, was accepting 38 payment methods, 130 payment currencies and offered ordering capabilities in 31 languages. [8]

In 2015, Avangate is backed by Francisco Partners,[9] and has engaged in research to improve its customer service.[10]

Major investments and acquisition

In May 2011, Avangate received an investment from the 3TS Growth Fund launched by Cisco Systems, giving the fund a minority stake in the company.[11]

In October 2013, Avangate was acquired by Francisco Partners in an equity deal to increase product development and support global expansion.[12]

Awards and recognition

Avangate has received various awards and great recognition as a company. It was included in MThink's Top 20 Affiliate (CPS) Networks (2016),[13] amongst the Winners of the Red Herring Top 100 in North America (2015)[14] and in the G2 Crowd Grid for E-Commerce Platforms (2015).[15] It was named Best Subscription Management Solution and Best eCommerce & Billing Platform in the SIIA CODiE Awards (2015).[16]

Avangate was included in the Montclare SaaS 250 report (2015) [17] and in MThink's Top 20 Affiliate (CPS) Networks (2015).[18] It was a finalist in the Cloud Awards for Best Payment, Chargeback or Billing Solution (2014–15) [19] and was included in Deloitte's Technology Fast500 in North America (2014).[20] It was named Company of the Year for Computer Software in the Gold Stevie Awards (2014) [21] and Best eCommerce and Billing Finalist - CODiE Awards (2014).[22]

Avangate was listed in Gartner's Cool Vendors in E-Commerce (2013)[23] and in the Global Red Herring Top 100 (2013).[24] It was nominated for a CNP Award for Best E-Commerce Platform [25] and included in Deloitte's Technology Fast50 in 2013.[26] The company won a SIIA CODiE award in the Best eCommerce & Billing Platform category in 2013 [27] and was included in the Red Herring Europe Top 100 (2012)[28] and in the AlwaysOn Global Top 50 Companies (2012).[29] It also was a SIIA CODiE Award Finalist [30] and a European IT Excellence Award Finalist in 2012.
