Avec Sans is a London-based electro-pop group. The band is made up of Alice Fox (vocals, producer) and Jack St. James (electronics, producer).

The name Avec Sans is taken from the French language, meaning: with without.

Career

Avec Sans are Alice Fox and Jack St James from Manchester and Trinidad respectively.

After their electro cover of Bon Iver’s track Perth hit the top slot on Hype Machine, online blog chart, Avec Sans decided to become a band and started performing live in 2013.[1] They quickly gained recognition for their energetic live shows, which involve hacked Novation launchpads used in tandem tilted towards the audience.[2] Jack has filmed performances using 16 launchpads at once[3] and has helped Novation demo and launch new products online.[4]

Avec Sans’ track When You Go appeared on season one of MTV Television Scream (TV series)[5] and was subsequently released digitally. Their tracks have also been played nationally across the UK and America in retail outlets such as House of Fraser, Anthropologie and Banana Republic.

Avec Sans have released four singles: Hold On, Shiver and All of Time and Resonate; achieving radio play from: BBC Radio London,[6] BBC Introducing,[7] BBC 6 Music,[8] XFM (evening play-listing),[9] Gaydio, Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio[10] and they reached the number one slot on Amazing Radio.[11]

Press supporters include The Guardian who said of their music: "it's a sophisticated slice of delicate synthpop with more interesting production touches and melodic hooks than most bands can muster in a career."[12] Other press support for Avec Sans has also come from publications including: Music Week,[13] Clash (magazine),[14] VH1,[15] Noisey,[16] MTV Iggy,[17] PRS for Music M Magazine,[18] Fred Perry Subculture,[19] Artrocker,[20] Digital Spy,[21] Pop Justice,[22] Elle Magazine,[23] Hunger TV,[24] Notion,[25] Wonderland[26] and Tidal (service) who featured them on their electronic music playlist for September 2015.[27]

Avec Sans have been invited to perform at a number of international music industry events. In May 2015 they played at Canadian Music Week in Toronto,[28] receiving funding from PRS for Music in support of the trip.[29] They played at CMJ, New York in October 2015[30] and were among the first wave of artist announcements for South by Southwest 2016.[31]

They played live for the first BBC Introducing London live event with Gary Crowley.[32] They also played the main stage at Bingley Music Live[33] alongside acts such as The Pet Shop Boys, Example (musician) and Gorgon City and at events such as The Great Escape Festival,[34] Redfest,[35] Sounds from the Other City[36] and Kendal Calling.[37]

Avec Sans have remixed artists such as Swiss Lips (Epic),[38] Haerts (Columbia)[39] receiving praise for these from the likes of DJ Sasha[40] and have played alongside acts such as Little Boots,[41] Capital Cities (band)[42] and Kate Boy.[43]

They have been taken into the hearts of many in the fashion industry; before they'd performed in public they were asked to design a shoe for London fashion brand Swear.[44] Their music was used on the catwalks of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.[45] in 2014. They were also named band of the year by Dolce & Gabbana,[46] have been Track of the Day on Vogue (magazine)'s Vogue.com[47] and have been featured in Teen Vogue,[48] Elle Magazine[49] and DJ'd for the Milan launch of luxury brand Sandro.[50]

Avec Sans have been touring and DJing internationally and are currently finishing work on their first album.
