Axel Mowat

Axel Mowat (1592 27 January 1661) was a Norwegian land owner and admiral. He was probably born in Tysnes, a grandson of Christoffer Rustung. He was the father of Karen Mowat, and father-in-law of Baron Ludvig Rosenkrantz. He was a naval officer, and from 1631 he was in command of various naval units in the North Sea. He was the largest landowner in Western Norway at the time, and his properties was basis for the later Barony Rosendal.[1][2]
