This is an Icelandic name. The last name is a patronymic, not a family name; this person is properly referred to by the given name Axel.

Axel Sveinsson (3 April 1896 - 12 August 1957)[1] was a civil engineer, having received his engineering degree in Copenhagen in 1927.[2] He is noted for having designed several remarkable lighthouses in Iceland;[3][4] these include the lighthouses at Hólmsbergsviti,[3] Gardskagi,[5] Þrídrangaviti[6] and Knarraros.[7] A postage stamp depicting the Vattarnes lighthouse at Reyðarfjörður, which was designed by Axel, was issued in 2013.[8]

Axel was born in Bergsholti in Staðarveit, Snaefellsnessyslu to Sveinn Bjarnason and Sigriður Magnusdóttir. He was married three times, first to Aðalbjorg Sigurbjornsdottir, daughter of Sigurbjorn Bjornsson and Margret Sigurðardottir, next to Guðrun Olafia Sigurðardottir, daughter of Sigurður Olafsson and Solveig Unadottir, and finally on 24 Feb 1945 to Oddny Lára Emilia Petursdóttir, daughter of Pétur Þorsteinsson and Hlif Bogadóttir Smith.

Axel and Aðalbjorg had one son, Hulda Sveinsson. Axel and Guðrun had one daughter, Solveig Axelsdottir. Axel and Oddny had one daughter Hlif Borghildur Axelsdottir, and two sons Bjarni Magnus Axelsson and Hallgrimur Axelsson.[1]
