Aziza Othmana

Aziza Othmana (1606-1669 )  was a Tunisian Princess belonging to the Mouradites  Dynasty .[1]

She was the daughter of Ahmed Dey ( its full name Abul Abbas Al- Ahmed Ibn Mohammed Ibn Othman Dey ) and the granddaughter of Othman Dey, as suggested by some manuscripts in which his name is reproduced " Aziza Bent Ahmed Ben Othman Dey . " Both were elected Tunis military commander of the province by the militia of the Janissaries . It is not possible to know his date of birth but from its date of death, it is reasonable to estimate that she was born during the seventeenth century.

She grew up in the palace of his grandfather where she received a solid education with masters of scholars who make him discover the Islamic civilization and the Sharia. It also studies the Koran. Later, her father marries to Hammouda Pasha Bey Dynasty Mouradites ; She then left the palace to live with her husband. She then performed her hajj, taking her servants and slaves with her.

She remains famous for its charities. Late in her life, and freed all his slaves and constitutes habous all of its assets, or more than 90 000 hectares of land sown or planted for the benefit of diverse charity : funds for free the slaves and redeem the prisoners funds to form the wedding trousseau of poor girls, etc. Wills writes that she relinquishes the effect of all that she has . She founded and participates in the financing of the hospital ( Bimaristan in Arabic) of El Azzafine street in Tunis, which later became the current hospital Aziza Othmana

She eventually died at the end of 1669 years, which corresponds to the year 1080 of the Muslim calendar . His grave is in its Necropolis ( tourba ) located at a place called Al- Halqat Naal, deep in the Ech Chamaiya impasse in the Medina of Tunis, near the madrasa Ech Chamaiya . The building has two domes in which the graves of his relatives line up . A wooden screen makes contact Zaouia Sidi Ben Arous (famous saint of Tunis), while a wall separated the two buildings before. In his will, the princess Aziza Othmana expressed its wish to see flowers - roses, violets and jasmine with the seasons - laid on his tomb : "I want there to be every day on my grave " aurait- she said.
