CJ Entus is a South Korean StarCraft II and League of Legends esports team. It is the works team of the CJ Group chaebol. There were Warcraft 3 and Special Force 2 teams as well, but they were discontinued. CJ Entus began as a StarCraft: Brood War team 2001 under the name ProSuma. In April 2006 the CJ Group obtained naming rights to the team and it began competing in the StarCraft Proleague. On May 24, 2012 CJ Entus began sponsoring a League of Legends team to compete in the Ongamenet The Champions (LCK) league.
Team info
The CJ Entus team after winning the SC league
Famous for its high-freedom practices and its team color. From its early members Kim Dong-jun, Lim Sung-choon, Choi In-gyu, Kim Jung-min, Lee Jae-hun and Kim Geun-baek to members Seo Ji-hun, Kang Min, Jeon Sang-wook, Park Tae-min, Byun Hyung-tae and Park Yeong-min to current members Kim Jeong-woo, Jo Byung-se, Jin Yeong-wha, Han Sang-bong and Shin Dong-won the team is also well known for finding many talented players. Even now the team is reviewed to be a team that produces many great players.
Due to its long time as a non-company affiliated team many team members moved to other teams, with Choi In-gyu and Kim Geun-bak going to Samsung Galaxy, Kim Jeong-min and Kang Min to KT Rolster, Jeon Sang-wook and Park Tae-min to SK Telecom T1 and Kim Dong-jun and Im Seong-chun moving to the position of commentator. Each time a team member moved out the team was at risk of having not enough skilled players but the director of the team (Cho Gyu-nam) thought of each move as a chance for new members and managed to keep many skilled players despite the frequent moves.
Even with its great players and high rankings the team did not have a sponsor for a long while, leading to critiques frowning over the fact that the team was supported by its members. However, the director believed that the team shouldn't block a member's progress and did not resist the moves and actually helped the members find better teams to play in. When the no-sponsor slump continued, the director didn't want to burden the team any longer leading to his pronouncement on 2006 February that if they didn't find a sponsor within a month they would discontinue the team. Following the pronouncement over 20 companies rushed to try to contract the team[1] and on April of the same year they were contracted by the CJ Group.
The team has shown good results in both team and separate matches with a high aptitude towards separate matches in pro leagues. In the MBC GamSK Telecom league the team had the highest number of wins and entrance to the top 3 (3 wins, 1 runner-up and 1 3rd place), also went to the finals of the Winners league with an astounding score of 9 wins and 2 losses.
However, in the Shinhan Bank league they scored 6th, and in the post season they lost to SKT T1, showing that the team was weakened.
And in 2010 with director Cho Gyu-nam and team member Kim Jeong-woo retiring fans avidly worried about what would happen to CJ Entus, with the result being CJ Entus's addition to Hite Sparkies creating Hite Entus.
Hite Entus returns as CJ Entus on May 2010 with their first match after returning as CJ Entus being against WeMadSK Telecom Fox.
2011 June 26 the team wins against STX and enters the post season at 2nd place, but in the post season the team fails to win against KT and does not make it to the finals.
After this, the team regains its fame by gaining good results in many leagues and matches in both Special Force 2 and StarCraft.
