BBC Radio Devon is the BBC Local Radio service for the English county of Devon. It first aired on 17 January 1983, replacing a previous breakfast show (Morning Sou'West) for Devon and Cornwall broadcast on the local frequencies of Radio 4.
Frequencies
Radio Devon is broadcast on the following frequencies from BBC Broadcasting House in Plymouth and St. David's Hill in Exeter (transmitter location in brackets):
- FM:
- 103.4MHz countywide (North Hessary Tor)
- 94.8MHz in North Devon (Huntshaw Cross)
- 95.7MHz in Plymouth (Plympton)
- 95.8MHz in Exeter (St. Thomas)
- 96.0MHz in West Devon (Okehampton)
- 104.3MHz in Torbay and the South Hams (Beacon Hill)
- AM (MW):
- 801 kHz in North Devon (Barnstaple)
- 990 kHz in Exeter
- 1458 kHz in Torbay
- DAB - available in Plymouth, Exeter, Torbay and North Devon. Plymouth also broadcasts to South East Cornwall, meaning Radio Cornwall is unavailable on DAB. The DAB feed to Plymouth is independent of the DAB feed to Exeter and Torbay.
FM, DAB and AM frequencies opt-out every Saturday and most Tuesday nights to broadcast live sports coverage to specific areas of the county, i.e. Plymouth, Exeter and Torbay. BBC Radio Devon can also be heard online through the BBC iPlayer.
Programming
The majority of the station's programming is produced and broadcast from Plymouth. During off-peak hours, BBC Radio Devon also produces regional programming for the South West and West regions. As with all BBC Local Radio stations, it also airs the networked weekday evening shows, originating from BBC Radio Leeds and produced independently by Wire Free Productions. During the station's downtime, BBC Radio Devon simulcasts BBC Radio 5 Live overnight.
The station's local presenters include Simon Bates and Gordon Sparks.
