The UKL platform (UKL=Untere Klasse, lower class in German[1]) is an automobile platform developed by German car manufacturer BMW. It is a modular architecture to suit a range of front and four-wheel drive models.
The platform has two derivatives; the UKL1 and UKL2. The former was first used in the 2014 Mini Hatch.[2]
UKL1 platform
The UKL1 platform is expected to be utilised by up to 11 BMW and Mini models.[3]
Models announced include:
- Mini Hatch (F56) (2014)
- Mini Hatch 5-door (F55) (2014)
UKL2 platform
- Mini Clubman (F54) (2015)
- BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (F45) (2014)
The UKL2 platform will underpin the BMW 1-Series and X1.[4]
