"Babli Badmaash" (English: "Naughty Babli") is an item number in the 2013 Bollywood film Shootout at Wadala with Priyanka Chopra. It is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, composed by Anu Malik with lyrics by Kumar, choreographed by Ahmed Khan and produced by Ekta and Shobha Kapoor.[1] With costumes designed by Manish Malhotra, it is the first item number of Chopra's career. "Babli Badmaash" received a U/A rating from the Central Board of Film Certification.[2]

Development and production

In February 2013, The Times of India reported that Priyanka Chopra was signed for an Item number in Shootout at Wadala; she agreed to the song after ensuring that its lyrics had no vulgar words or profanity.[3] The song would be filmed over a three-day period at Film City in Gurgaon.[4]

Release

Internet pictures from the song's sets appeared on 11 March 2013, and the film's producers released the first look at Chopra in the song on Twitter.[5] The song's teaser was released on 13 March 2013.[6] A video, directed by Sanjay Gupta, was released on 15 March by Balaji Motion Pictures and the Sony Music India YouTube channel. The song was released for download on the Nokia Music Store.[7]

Reception

The song received positive feedback from critics; The Indian Express said, "The lyrics are very catchy and remind you of the age of Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi. Since the movie is set up in the 80's, the song has a retro feel to it".[8]
