Bad Münster am Stein station is a station at a railway junction in Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg in the district of Bad Kreuznach in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Here the Alsenz Valley Railway (German: Alsenztalbahn) branches from the Nahe Valley Railway (Nahetalbahn). The station building, dating from about 1910, is protected as a monument.[2] It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station.[1]

History

Panorama of Münster am Stein with the first station building of 1859 (centre)

Munster am Stein was connected to the rail network in 1859 with the inauguration of the second section of the Nahe Valley Railway. It became a separation station with the opening of Alsenz Valley Railway in 1871. It was connected to the Glan Valley Railway (Glantalbahn) in 1904. Increasing traffic and the rising importance of the town as a health resort led in 1910 to the reorganisation of the station facilities and the construction of a prestigious entrance building.

Building

The station building dating from around 1910 is a representative one-story Art Nouveau building, which is covered by a large hipped roof and thus reflects the architecture of the spa and bath house of 1911. It is partly built in timber framing. Nearby to its northwest there is also a single-storey outbuilding with a shallow hipped roof.
