Baekuni (born 1961) is an Indonesian serial killer who was convicted of killing 4 boys.
Biography
Baekuni was born Hasan in 1961 in Indonesia. His twin brother Husein died in childhood and Hasan's name was changed to Baekuni.[1]
He worked as a street vendor in Jakarta selling snacks, drinks and cigarettes. He was referred to as "Babe", a term for Dad, by street children. He gave shelter to several children in his home without harming them. Others he would sodomize, strangle, and then dump their bodies.[2]
Baekuni was arrested on January 8, 2010 after the severed head and other body parts of his last victim, 9-year-old Ardiansyah,[2] were found in a black plastic bag in a river in the Cakung area of East Jakarta.[3] Ardiansyah's mother, who was a neighbor of Baekuni, knew he had been spending time with him. He confessed to murdering 14 boys, aged 6 to 12,[2] between 1993 and 2010.[4] He was sentenced to life in prison on October 5, 2010.[5]
Baekuni also claimed to know Siswanto, another serial killer from Jakarta. Febry Irmansyah, a lawyer for Siswanto, stated that he believed Baekuni, who went by Sunarto at the time, was the key witness in Siswanto's trial. At Baekuni's arrest he stated that Siswanto had committed the crimes.[1]
