Bagh e Mehtab

Baghe Mehtab is located on the outskirts of Srinagar[1] Jammu and Kashmir, India. 7 km away from city centre Lal Chowk[2] Baghe Mehtab is primarily a residential area with Government Housing Colony Baghe Mehtab and Private Colony. The PIN code for the region is 190019. Population is majorly (99%) Kashmiri Muslims. The area is located on the banks of the river Dhood Ganga(literally the Ganges of milk). It was named after Mehtab Begum who migrated to Pakistan after the partition of India in 1947.

The area was an orchard with plum trees planted across the whole area before its allotment as residential settlement area for building Government colony in the late 1980s. Today it is one of the best residential areas of the valley with proper drainage and beautiful parks. It was one of the only few areas which remained entirely safe during the massive September 2014 floods. It remained safe because the flood gates on the doodh ganga river were let open on time thereby averting any tragedy.
