Baissour

Baissour is a village located in the Aley District of Mount Lebanon. It is 850 metres (2,790 ft) above sea level and shares a border with Kaifoun, Kabr Shmoon, Majdlaya, and Ainab. Baissour is a village in Aley District of Mount Lebanon, 850 metres (2,790 ft) above sea level, 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Beirut (20 minutes driving) and 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) from Aley. Baissour is about 5 minutes from the town of Souq El Gharb which was a frontline during the civil war.

− − Baissour has a population of about 16000 citizens and is continually growing and expanding. The citizens are from the Druz Islamic Doctrine (Al Muwahidoon).

− − Baissour is known because of the clerics and sheikhs of the Druze sect, who have a reputation for their superior ability to solve political and social problems that might occur in their villages and in the neighborhood.

− − There is an ancient saying about Baissour: (Baissour Alla Yumura = God keep Baisour living in prosperity). It is believed that this saying belongs to the Master Bahā'a ad-Dīn as-Samuki when he passed by the village during his trip from Cairo to Damascus.

− − The great leader Kamal Jumblat named Baissour also as "Umm El Shuhada = The Mother of Martyrs" as there are more than 120 citizens from Baissour Martyred in defense of the Arabic identity and unity, independence and freedom of Lebanon on all fronts, including fighting against the Zionist enemy and its supporters.

− − Baissour is rich in many of the competencies in various fields ranging from politics and military, security forces and justice, through engineers, doctors, lawyers and professionals.

− − Ghazi Aridi is a member of the Lebanese Government and Parliament and a member of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) Leadership Council, Aridi is also the right arm of the PSP and Druz Leader Walid Jumblat.

− − In addition, several educated and well known people and public figures are from Baissour such as Major General Samir El Qadi (Lebanese Army Chief Of Staff), Brigadier Naji Malaeb (Internal Security Forces Senior Officer), Essam Aridi (Lawyer and Poet), Haseeb Malaeb (Attorney at Law), Dr. Jamil Molaeb (Artist/Painter), Dr. Dia Malaeb (Director of Engineering in the corporate world), Dr. Walid F. Malaeb (Engineer and University Professor), Dr. Lilian Malaeb (Researcher at King Abdulaziz University KAUST), Dr bachir Aridi (scholar and educator), Dr. Walid G. Malaeb (Nuclear Scientist at The University of Tokyo), Dr. Adnan Aridi (Banker and University Professor), Dr. Marwan Malaeb (United Nations Projects), Dr. Rabih Aridi (the first Arab elected to Amnesty International USA Board of Directors), Bassem Malaeb (International Court of Justice in The Hague), Marwan Aridi (a world-renowned master designer calligrapher), Fares Malaeb (a renowned international awards winner artist calligrapher) plus many others as the village has hundreds of University Graduates.
