Bamta lies in the south-western ranges of the Himalayas at 31°1′9″N 77°37′13″E / 31.01917°N 77.62028°E. It has an average altitude of 2,144 metres (7,037 ft) above mean sea level. The place is surrounded by the forests of chir pine and gigantic deodars. The valley is also famous for its apple orchards. Elevation ranges from 2144 to 3100meters from the sea level.

Bamta is a famous historical place associated with Raja of Jubbal. Earlier It was under the princely state of Jubbal which was founded in 1800.
Bamta lies on the boundary of Jubbal and Chaupal. Bamta is also famous for high quality apples.
