Bank Windhoek Limited, commonly referred to as Bank Windhoek, is a commercial bank in Namibia. It is one of the commercial banks licensed to operate in the country by the Bank of Namibia, the national banking regulator.[2]
Overview
Bank Windhoek is the flagship brand of the Bank Windhoek Holdings Group, a Namibian holdings group listed on the Namibian Stock Exchange. Bank Windhoek Holdings Limited is a subsidiary of Capricorn Investment Holdings, a regional financial services group with interests in banking, insurance, asset management, investments and micro finance. Bank Windhoek has a proud Namibian heritage and is committed to contribute to the socioeconomic development of our country. Bank Windhoek is a full scope commercial bank offering a wide range of banking products and services to the market. Bank Windhoek has an extensive distribution network of 53 retail and specialist finance branches and agencies countrywide.
Ownership
Bank Windhoek is a 100% subsidiary of Bank Windhoek Holdings Limited (BWHL). BWHL is itself a subsidiary of Capricorn Investment Holdings (CIH), which maintains a 55% shareholding in BWHL. Capricorn is a large financial conglomerate, with interests in three Southern African countries: Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.
In July 2010, the Bank of Namibia (BON), the country's banking regulator rejected a proposal by the South African banking conglomerate Absa Group to acquire 70% shareholding in Capricorn Investment Holdings. The BON has subsequently indicated that a minority investment by Absa might receive regulatory approval.[3]
