The school is named in honour of Sir Frederick Grant Banting, a key member of the Canadian scientific team that discovered how to extract and use insulin for treating diabetes mellitus. Alliston, Ontario, Canada was the home town of Sir Frederick Banting, and is also the foundation of his homestead. Banting Memorial offers attending students programs in Extended French courses and Specialist High Skills Major in Health & Wellness, Horticulture & Landscaping, Agriculture, and Transportation. The school participates in county sporting events under the name of the "Marauders".

Sports

The Banting Marauders Cross Country Team was notably the most dominant Senior Boys team in the GBSSA region of OFSAA, winning the Team title four years in a row (2006–2009) [1][2][3][4] During the 2006 season, the senior boys team became the first Banting Cross Country team to claim the GBSSA title in the schools 55 year history. There is a tradition where legendary runners get the opportunity to sign a pair of vintage maroon running shorts to cement their place in Banting cross country history. Only a select few runners have ever had this special honour. In 2008 they had their best season finishing 7th at OFSAA.[5]
