Barara is a town in Ambala, Haryana, India. It is 87 kilometres (54 mi) from the state capital, Chandigarh. Maharishi Markandey University is 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from Barara. Hindi, Punjabi, and Haryanvi are all well spoken and understood by people of Barara. Most of the population of Barara is Hindu. In 2015 Barara has been announced to come under municipal committee. Therefore now there is "MUNICIPAL CORPORATION"" in Barara.

Transport

Barara is connected by train to Ambala, Jagadhri, Saharanpur, Ludhiana, and Delhi.[1]

Barara is also connected by bus service from Ambala,Yamunanagar,Chandigarh,Kurukshetra and Delhi.

Local fame

Barara is famous for its Dushehra mela. The world's tallest Ravan is burnt at Barara every year on the day of Dushehra. In 2014, the height of the Ravan was more than 200 feet.(Ravan of Barara Limca Book Of Records )
