Barasat Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School is a higher secondary boys' school in the town of Barasat, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India.

History

The school was established with 38 students on 26 February 1948, as Barasat Government School, just after the death of Mahatma Gandhi. It was founded by the efforts of Shri Binoybhushan Gangopadhyay and other local guardians.

Staff

The principal is Sk.Ali Ahsan, the assistant headmaster is Dwijendra Prasad Mandal. Previous headmasters were Binoy Bhushan Ganguly, Ranajit Das Gupta, Dr. Ajay Roy and Dr. Sk Anowar Hossain. Dr. Durga Das Mukherjee was one of the founders of the school.

The curriculum is as per the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (till class 10) and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (classes 11 and 12). The common curriculum is followed till class 10. In class 11 and 12, there are 3 streams: Science, Commerce and Arts.

Subjects offered Grade VI to X: English, Bengali, Mathematics, History, Geography, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Computer science, Physical Education, Work Education including arts. Additional subjects: Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanics, Computer science, Book keeping and accounts, Additional Biology, Pisciculture, Sanskrit, Arabic, Work Education and Physical Education.

Extra-curricular

An Eco Club was set up in 2000. From 2003 the club was rechristened as the Science Club. Activities include seminars, exhibitions, quizzes, talent searches, participation in science and mathematics olympiads, and celebration of birthdays of personalities. Students have represented the school in National Children Science Congress at state and national levels. Teachers have represented the school and presented papers in the State Science Congress and in the National Teachers Science Congress.
