Barry and the Penetrators is an American band from Monmouth County, Jersey Shore, New Jersey, formed in 1998. Their debut album Beaver Country was self-released in 2001, selling over 10,000 copies.

Overview

Over seventeen years, hundreds of shows, a stint (and album) with Suburban Noize Records(with Kottonmouth Kings, Unwritten Law, Authority Zero, Hed PE, Mickey Avalon, etc.) and thousands of sold cd's later, the Penetrators are still active. They place a high emphasis on live performances more so than recorded material, to the delight of an ever-growing fan base, and are known for their high energy stage presence and spontaneous improvisational performances that captivate their fans. They are known to rarely ever hit the stage with an actual “set-list”, and instead rely on feeling the vibes of the crowd/venue they are performing to feel out "what song is next". It is a very similar approach to the live performances of the Grateful Dead without set-lists, albeit sounding nothing like GD. The successful "Beaver Country", "Addicted" and "Tales From Dirty Jersey" albums have sold well over 10, 000 copies each, and their music is heard in 20 countries from Brazil to Germany to Australia. They have shared the stage with the likes of Bouncing Souls, The Descendents, Burning Spear, Fishbone, Pepper, Eek-A-Mouse, Skunk Records' Slightly Stoopid, The English Beat, Third World, Yellowman and The Wailers, just to name a few, and have earned close to a half dozen awards at the Asbury Music Awards including "Best Punk/Ska Band" several times..

History

The original formation of the group was loosely established within the now-defunct Casino Skate Park in Asbury Park, NJ where Peterson had worked and of which Sisom and Schaefer were regulars. Upon finding out each other were musicians by chance, the seed of the band was then formed, and subsequently named by their good friend Darin O’Brien. Sisom and Schaefer by that point were already experienced band musicians: Sisom having played role of guitarist for Past Pluto and Tenpenny, Schaefer the former bassist of the All City Creepers and The Kind (and currently also in Hot Blood) and owner of Word Of Mouth Studios who produced many Jersey Shore bands. They then called upon fellow Jersey Shore Musician and former drummer of the very popular NJ band Psykadelic Oven Mit Eric Porcaro to complete the rhythm section followed by the joining of keyboardist and wife of singer, Jeanna Peterson. With that lineup the original band was formed. Since their formation, they have had several drummers (Nick Marini been with B&TP for over 8 years now), and even a few guitarists from between 2006-2009 (Corey Genthe, Mike Marra) when guitarist Mark Sisom went on hiatus from the band to pursue a full-time creative director position in NYC. Amidst company-wide layoffs, Sisom was released from his position in 2009 of which he was asked to perform a series of gigs that spring upon Genthe’s leave from band, and has remained back in his full-time position of guitarist since.

The band has obtained sponsorship endorsements over the years by lifestyle brands such as Foster’s beer, American Revolution Vodka, …Lost Clothing, Electric Sunglasses, and Eastern Line Surf Shop. Barry and the Penetrators is ranked as the 25th top pop band in Belmar, New Jersey[3]
