Bashmakovsky District (Russian: Башмако́вский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,618 square kilometers (625 sq mi). Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Bashmakovo.[1] Population: 23,304 (2010 Census);[4] 25,159(2002 Census);[7] 28,032(1989 Census).[8] The population of Bashmakovo accounts for 44.7% of the district's total population.[4]
