Basil Richards (born 9 July 1965 in Bradford, England) is a rugby league coach and former professional player.

Playing career

Bradford born Richards signed for Warrington Wolves as a junior and played 42 matches for the club between 1989 and 1993.[1] He signed with Huddersfield for the 1993-94 season and remained with the club until 1999, playing in 1998's Super League III and 1999's IV.[2][3]

Richards later played for Doncaster.[4]

Coaching career

After retirement Richards worked for the Kirklees Council as part of their sports development team and took up coaching, working with the Bradford Bulls part-time and as coach of amateur club Queensbury.[4] He also worked with English national youth sides.

He was appointed Bradfords assistant coach in 2006 by Steve McNamara.[4] Richards coached the Bulls Senior Academy side.[5] He was released by the club in early 2010 after Bradford suffered poor form.[6]

Personal life

His brother, Craig Richards, played for the Bradford Bulls. His cousin, Dean Richards, played football for Bradford City.[7]
