The Battle of Kismayo (2009) erupted on October 1, 2009, after the alliance ruling Kismayo, Somalia broke down. Sheikh Ahmed "Madobe" and his Ras Kamboni Brigade forces tried to expel al-Shabaab from the city but were overpowered and the battle resulted in an al-Shabaab takeover of Kismayo.[1]
