BaubleBar is a fast fashion jewelry company[1] started by Amy Jain and Daniella Yacobovsky.[2][3]
History
During their second year of business school, Jain and Yacobovsky started a beta version of the current website that received a $1.1 million in seed financing from Accel Partners.[4] In January 2011, the BaubleBar public site was launched,[4] and later that year Greycroft Partners and Accel Partners invested an additional $4.5 million in Series A funding.[5] In July 2014, the Company raised $10 million in Series B funding, in a round led by Burch Creative Capital.[6] The company most recently raised $20 million in Series C funding in January 2016 led by past investors, Accel Partners, Greycroft Partners and Burch Creative Capital with new strategic partners including Hubert Burda Media and footwear retail chain, DSW.[7] They have collaborated in the past with Jawbone,[8] Benefit Cosmetics[9] Alessandra Ambrosio,[10] Olivia Palermo[11] and Emma Roberts.[12]
Business model
BaubleBar designs their jewelry in-house and can turn around a new trend in as little as eight weeks.[13] The sweet spot the Company has identified combines their super-quick turnaround along with data-driven trend forecasting from a rich selection of data gleaned from BaubleBar shoppers.[13] This business model has allowed BaubleBar to capitalize on popular styles before its competitors do.[4] As a result, BaubleBar is able to plan its merchandising calendars as quickly as 4 to 12 weeks in advance of when products are available for sale.[14]
Over the years, BaubleBar has expanded their wholesale partnerships to include Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's and QVC.[15] Additionally, in November 2015, BaubleBar designed a line of tech accessories including cellphone cases, headphones and Bluetooth speakers, available exclusively at Target stores and Target.com.[16]
BaubleBar has been called the “future of retail” by Mashable.[17]
