The Bauman Foundation is a private grant-making foundation based in Washington, D.C. As of 2014, it had assets of approximately $95 million.[3] Its stated mission is support of advocacy for systemic progressive social change.[4]
Founded in 1987, the Bauman Foundation was funded by the estate of Lionel R. Bauman, a New York City lawyer and businessman. Lionel's daughter, Patricia Bauman, currently serves as the organization's president.[5] The Bauman Foundation makes approximately $5 million to $6 million of grants per year.[6]
The Bauman Foundation has been a major donor to the progressive advocacy group People for the American Way. Bauman has also funded the League of Conservation Voters, ProgressNow and The Voter Participation Center.[7]
