Bay TV Liverpool is a local television channel based in Liverpool and broadcasting to Merseyside. Initially established in November 2011 as an on-demand internet service, the station began broadcasting three years later. Bay TV's studios and offices are based in Toxteth.
Overview
On 21 February 2013, Bay TV was awarded a local TV licence by Ofcom to broadcast a linear channel on Freeview channel 7 in the Liverpool area including Halton, Wigan and parts of Cheshire. It also has ambitions to broadcast on Sky.[1][2] Under the initial proposals, the channel aimed to air 10 hours of local programming each day, including two and a half hours of news on weekdays, and a weekly politics programme, presented by broadcaster Liam Fogarty.
On 16 May 2013, Bay TV Liverpool was awarded Best Media Website in the Prolific North Awards, beating other more established websites including nationally renowned Skiddle.com and local rival Wirral Globe.[3]
The channel began broadcasting on Freeview channel 7 on Thursday 4 December at 5.30pm.
Programming
On weekdays, Bay TV airs regularly updated local news bulletins for 6.5 hours, along with a weekend compilation programme, The Week in View, and weekly sports shows, Rugby AM and The Everton Show. The station also airs a wide range of arts programming, mainly as part of the Arts Alive strand.
Other feature programmes on the channel include flagship entertainment show The Guide with Jay and Ellie, lifestyle series 52% and Style City and religious affairs programme Faith Matters. During downtime, Bay TV also runs a Community Noticeboard information service.
