Bayfair Shopping Centre, (usually referred to as 'Bayfair' by locals), is the main shopping mall in Tauranga.

Location

Bayfair Shopping Centre is located on the corner of Maunganui Road (State Highway 2) and Girven Road. The rear of the shopping centre backs onto Farm Road, and Jackson Street and Harris Street are located to the side of the building. It is scross Maunganui Road from Omanu Golf Course, and across Girven Road from Baywave (a major aquatic complex).

Stores

Bayfair has six anchor stores, Kmart, Countdown, Woolworths, Farmers, Nevada, and JB Hi-Fi. Bayfair is home to New Zealand's only Woolworths supermarket, which was rebranded using the Australian Woolworths logo rather than rebranding to Countdown like all other Foodtown and Woolworths stores because there was already a Countdown store in Bayfair. Farmers is the only part of the shopping centre (other than the carpark) to be on more than one floor. There is a large foodcourt, with around a dozen food retailers, including Subway and McDonalds. Imbibe Restaurant and a Caltex Petrol Station are located in Bayfair's carpark.

Transport

Car

Access to the multi-storey carpark is from the junction of Girven Road and Gloucester Road. Access to the other parking areas are from Girven Road, Maunganui Road, Harris Street, and Farm Street.

Bus

There is a major bus stop out the front of Bayfair Shopping Centre. Four BayHopper (Tauranga's urban bus network) routes serve Bayfair. These are Route 2 (Mount Maunganui-BoP Polytechnic via Tauranga CBD and Greeton), Route 30 (Mount Maunganui-Papamoa), Route 33 (Tauranga-Papamoa via the Harbour Bridge, and Route 36 (Tauranga-Papamoa via Maungatapu Bridge. All four routes operate seven days a week. Route 30 runs hourly on all days, the other three routes run half-hourly on week-days, and hourly on weekends. In addition to urban services, several regional bus routes serve Bayfair. These are the 'Te Puke-Tauranga Commuter', Route 143 (Tauranga-Whakatane, and the 'Twin City Express' (Rotorua-Tauranga). These servies only operate a few times a day and only operate on week days (except for Route 143, which runs on Saturdays as well) .[4] Intercity Coachlines also serve Bayfair on their routes between Tauranga and Wellington, and Tauranga to Napier and Hastings.[5]
