Becky Baltz

Becky Baltz is an American civil engineer. She is the district engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation's southwest region. She was listed as one of the most influential women by the Tri-State Business Journal in 2010, and again by the Springfield Business Journal in 2012.

Early and personal life

Becky Baltz originally wanted to be a teacher. Baltz attended Southwest Missouri State University. She originally studied computer science but left after she "figured out that computers weren't my cup of tea." She entered the civil engineering program at the University of Missouri-Rolla. She focused on construction management.[1] She is married and has two sons.[2]

Career

After she graduated from college she started working for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) as a graphic designer in St. Louis. Starting in 1984, she designed traffic signals and signs.[1][3] She relocated to Springfield, Missouri in 1998. She was a district liaison engineer and head of the federal funding program.[1] Baltz became a district engineer, in Joplin, for MoDOT in January 2006.[1][2] She started working as district engineer in the southwest district for Missouri in June 2011.[1][4] As district manager she maintains a budget of $78 million. In 2010 she was listed as one of the most influential women by Tri-State Business Journal, and in 2012 by the Springfield Business Journal.[2][3] She is a member of the board for the Joplin Metropolitan Organization Board and the Springfield Area Transportation Study Organization.[2] She has been a guest columnist for the Joplin Globe.[5]
