The Belvidere Amtrak Station is a proposed train station in Belvidere, Illinois, for a new Chicago–Rockford–Dubuque Amtrak corridor scheduled to start by the end of 2015.[1] Originally, the route would have run on the same tracks as the former Black Hawk line used from 1974 to 1981, omitting Belvidere. However, following unsuccessful negotiations with the Canadian National Railway (owner of former Black Hawk line's route), the state of Illinois switched to a new route along the Union Pacific Railroad which includes Belvidere and Huntley.[2] Funding for the platform comes from the state, while it will be up to the city to fund the station building's construction. On July 3, 2014, it was announced that the Belvidere station plans were almost completed and construction was to start in October 2014, with opening in late 2015.[3]
