Benefield Castle

Benefield Castle was sited in the village of Lower Benefield, between the towns of Corby and Oundle in Northamptonshire at grid reference SP987884.

Originally the site of a Norman manor house, a stone ringwork fortress was built in the 13th century. It was abandoned by the early 14th century. It now consists of a rectangular platform surrounded by a broad ditch which represents the original moat. This is in turn surrounded by an earthen bank.
